Without Ceasing?

Sorry it's been awhile since I've posted. I've been trying to spend more time with family lately, and I'm finding it harder to balance my time, but I'm trying and with God's help I'll find a way to do it!

Everyone has heard to "pray without ceasing" but how many of us actually do this? Over the past 2 weeks, I just haven't been feeling myself so I have have been desperately trying to pray without ceasing. When you have a child, pets, spouse, and other family duties that all need your attention also it can be very hard. I find myself starting a prayer and then getting distracted way too often. Even when in church I'll occasionally find myself thinking about what to do for lunch, etc.

When I find myself completely unable to concentrate, I just pray one simple prayer over and over..."God, help me." He knows what I need. He knows when I need it. And I know He can help me!

So this week...Shake it for the Lord...without ceasing!

  1. I've thought about this same topic especially since having my baby in January. It seems like there's just never enough time to pray. Then I realized that it's not sitting down and praying a formal prayer. God hears us as we go about our daily tasks.

    This song has been a special blessing to me. Here are just a few verses...

    Prayer is the soul’s sincere desire,
    Unuttered or unexpressed;
    The motion of a hidden fire
    That trembles in the breast.

    Prayer is the burden of a sigh,
    The falling of a tear
    The upward glancing of an eye,
    When none but God is near.

    Prayer is the simplest form of speech
    That infant lips can try;
    The upward glancing of an eye,
    When none but God is near.

    Thanks for entering my Buggy Buddy giveaway! I'm going to draw the winner tonight! :)

  3. Thank you! I have gotten a little behind in my postings lately, but hopefully after a much needed vacation this weekend I will get back up to speed :)

    Myra - that is a really good song. I've came back here and read it a couple of times since you posted it!

    Hope you both have a blessed weekend!

  4. I can certainly identify with you regarding some times when "God help me" is the only prayer that seems possible. I trust that in the last couple of months you've been able to find some islands of peace in your daily life.

    A quick comment on I Thess. 5:17. "Pray without ceasing" is not a command to do nothing but pray 24/7. A similar expression was used in Paul's day of a chronic cough, one of those nagging coughs that just won't go away. The apostle is using it to call his readers to "chronic prayer." Whatever our circumstances, we need to pray, to continue the habit of prayer.

    The comment posted earlier by Myra is helpful. James Montgomery's hymn reminds us that prayer can take many forms. It is "the soul's sincere desire, unuttered or expressed." Even when no articulate words can come, God sees our hearts and knows our need.

    God bless.
